Probing understanding in science

alhamdulillah thanx to Allah i had finished my second semester..but i must present my proposal on 24th october..hope i can do it!!!wish me luck..

em this semester i had learned "probing understanding in science"..i enjoyed learning this subject because it gives me a lot of information that i never had learned before..

here i want to share what i had learned in this class..actually there are a lot of ways that we can use to probe students' understanding in science especially schools' student..we can use cartoon, interview, drawings, concept map, POE(predict, explain,observe) and also can use constructivism classroom..with interview, we can probe single concept at a time..teacher can identify students' understanding during interview session..complete, incomplete and misconception answer given by students can be detected..

there are more informations regarding probing understanding in science that we can find out on internet..for those teachers out there, we have many ways to make our students enjoyed during learning..hope we always keen to find a way to make the teaching and learning process interesting and success..

my teaching commitment

Personal Development Plan

In the coming year, as a professional science educator, I plan to be a smart educator. With all of the experiences I have, hope I can manage my life as an educator well and improve my teaching skills. With all of the research work or project that I will done, hope can contribute some benefits to others especially for Malaysian.

I will be a caring, understanding and positive thinking educator. My students will enjoy during my class and willing to share their problems to get some advices. With a little experiences that I have, hope I can consult them and give the best way to solve their problems.

My previous supervisor's word still fresh on my mind. "Tekun", that's what she always said to me. She is a strict person but nice. Now, I can realize on what she have done to me give much impact on my life today. Now I can merely say that I am such an independent person with the pain and joy that I went through with her. She teach me a lots not just to be a good student but also how to life as a person.

So, one day I hope I will achieve all my targets in my life. Be a good person to everyone and help them as long as I can be.

SIMULATION

A computer simulation, a computer model or a computational model is a, or network of computers, that attempts to simulate an abstract model of a particular system. Computer simulations have become a useful part of mathematical modeling of many natural systems in physics, chemistry and biology, human systems in economics, psychology and social science and in the process of engineering new technology, to gain insight into the operation of those systems or to observe their behaviour.

What is BIOLOGY

The word Biology is made up of two smaller words. “Bio”, and “logy”. Bio means life. Logy means a study of science. When we put these two words together, what do we get? Bio-logy, or Biology, the science of life.

But wait a minute, what is life? What kinds of things are alive? Well, to begin with, you and I are alive. Your families, friends and neighbors are all forms of life. So are your pets, your lawn, trees, plants, the food you eat, and the bugs that you watch crawl on the sidewalk. Life is all around us. From gigantic whales that live in the oceans, to tiny germs that crawl around on your computer keyboard.

When I heard about the ICT in science education I wondering what will I get from this class..What will I learn..But now its all answer my questions..I learned much than what I've expected..
Data logging..Blog..Smartboard..Its all boost me to know much about ICT and broaden my mind..Blog is a new things for me..I learned how to create a blog and what can do with it to apply in education..Smartboard?? Erm it is the latest things I've learned..Smartboard impressed me a lot..It is such a high-tech..With a smartboard the process of teaching and learning will be more attractive and wonderful..The teacher have many tools and ways to teach and the students more educate to learn and enjoy learning with the smartboard tools..The smartboard will easiest the teaching and learning process..

ME MYSELF AND I

Salam..I'm studying at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) Tanjung Malim Perak in Master of Education (Biology)..I'm graduated from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Nilai Negeri Sembilan in Bachelor of Science with Honours (Food Biotechnology).. Actually I'm a greenhorn in education field and did not have any experiences on teaching.. My background is more to research and innovation in sciences and I have experienced work as a Research Assistant and Demonstrator..But...I love to teach and that's why I'm here..So now I must work hard and smart to learn more about teaching and learning concepts..I'll try my best..InsyaAllah...

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)..Erm maybe all of you like to watch this series..They can caught the criminal and solve many problems..But do you know how they works?? They analysed the DNA sample of the suspects and matched it with the sample from the crime scene DNA..It calls DNA profiling or DNA fingerprinting..Another uses of DNA profiling are parentage testing, victim identification in mass disasters, animal identification (race horses) and also in conservation biology and evolutionary studies..

my reflection

The initial reflection of my lesson plan is the concept of mitosis is complex because it involves the movement of the cell in our body. The student cannot imagine of what they learn without the simulation aid. They must understand each stages of mitosis precisely.

The reflection after is most of the student can explain the process of mitosis with the aids of diagrams. The problem that I have been facing during this session is the cooperativeness from the students is weak. During the presentation, most of them do not want to volunteer to present and draw the diagrams of the mitosis. It is hard to ask them to take a part to present and involved in this work eventhough they know about the process. The confidence level of them is low and they hesitate to speak out and give their opinions. To overcome it, I have said that it is the quizzes time and they have to compete among themselves. Then, the technique was solvable and they become more attractive to involve and ask a question. To improve my teaching styles, I will give them more task that need a cooperative from the students to involve such as cooperative learning or Problem Based Learning (PBL). In addition, computer simulation also can be used to attract them and make them enjoy during learning process. The animation and audio from the simulation will help them to better understand about the process and relate it in their daily life because they can see the process directly. So, they will be more creative and critical thinkers in learning.

Final Year Project

During my undergraduate study, i've make a research project about Isolation and characterization of lactic acid bacteria in Malaysian's fermented foods; fermented maman and fermented rebung. I've got A for this project and I'm really satisfied when completed this research. Actually our fermented foods have lactic acid bacteria same as yogurt which can improve the intestinal tract. So, why choose yogurt..Eat our own food..

Osmosis

This is the lesson plan's slide presentation of my group. We've choose the osmosis in red blood cells as the topic to teach students and give them widen view about the osmosis. The concept of osmosis in red blood cells are complex to teach without using computer simulation because it involves the molecular movement, the obtain do not accomplished the theory and it is a problem to get the fresh blood samples.

my teaching philosophy

Learning is the main purpose of education. It is the goal of every student and the task of every teacher to increase knowledge and understanding in the classroom.

My teaching philosophy is easy. I will make my class such a wonderful place to learn and make the students feel comfortable to study and share the knowledge. As a teacher, I need to make education as enjoyable and beneficial as possible to for students. By teachers acting in all of these manners, a student's education will be more complete and enjoyable than one in which a student only sees the teacher in the classroom.


Group interaction is an important part of learning. Being able to share ideas, validate the students with those of others and teamwork are important processes in social and mental development. I should also be prepared to lead students in the direction they should go to reach correct conclusions and answers, without always providing the answers themselves. The students who are a passive person can learn to speak out during the group discussion and lead them to be confident to speak and confront with the public.

One way to take learning in a direction relevant to student interest is to invite student dialogue about the lessons and units of study. Given the opportunity for input, students generate ideas and set goals that make for much richer activities than I could have created or imagined myself. When students have ownership in the curriculum, they are motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals.

In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be. It is what I feel about education, and what I want my students to feel when they leave my classroom.
